These reclaimed wood pieces were purposely left rustic and unfinished. Some nails were removed. There was a light sanding and cleaning of the wood. And polyurethane was applied to the front.
We do well to remember the cross on which Jesus was nailed was not finely finished wood but the remains of an old tree.
